The Communist Party of China (CPC) gathered more than 2,000 CPC delegates to discuss ‘religious freedom’ in the country. Recently in the history of the CPC also amended religion to their constitution but, although this happens for the first time in its history, it is in a rather unclear way that does not make it certain whether the party will also change its policy or. But Bernardo Cervellera from Asianews.it wrote a strongly critical analysis showing how there is no religious freedom at all for Christians under the rule of CPC - therefore calling the conference a bluff.

*Although Bernardo Cervellera uses the commonly used distinction between an 'underground' and a 'state approved' Catholic Church, their have as of late been a lot of efforts of both Vatican and the Chinese state towards each other trying to rebalance their relations. One of such efforts was a letter of the Pope to the Chinese Catholic Christians in which he asks not to use this distinction as he favours to reconcile the Bishops in China.

* The Christians are not the only ones suffering under the repressive regime of the CPC. Yunus News has published a couple of articles about both the persecution of Falun Gong and the mistreatment of Tibetan Buddhism. These two groups have both organised several actions to ask the international community to boycott the 2008 Olympics in China as China, according to them, clearly violates the Olympic spirit and values.
